Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is a scholarship program funded by the Department of Science and Technology of the Govt of India, aimed toward encouraging students to take up research careers in the areas of basic sciences. It offers scholarship and contingency grants up to the pre-Ph.D. level to selected students. It’s administered by the Indian Institute of Science. The students who qualify KVPY examination are eligible for the fellowship as well as admissions into institutes like IISC or IISER based on further criteria. This exam has three Streams: SA (Class 11), SX (Class 12), and SB (First year B.Sc.). For receiving a fellowship, both aptitude test and interview marks are considered in 75:25 ratio.

Eligibility for KVPY:
|SA||Candidates who enrolled themselves for Class 11th (science stream) can apply for this exam.
Minimum Marks: Candidates must have passed class 10th with Mathematics & Science subjects with minimum 75% (65% for SC/ ST/ PwD).
|SX||Qualifying Exam: Candidates who have taken admission in class 12th (science subjects) can apply for this exam.
Minimum Marks: Candidates must score minimum 60% (50% for SC/ST/PwD) in Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB) in Class 12th.
|SB||Qualifying Exam: Candidates who enrolled in 1st year of the UG programme in Science (Physics/ Chemistry/ Mathematics/ Biology) can apply for this exam.
Minimum Marks: Candidates must score at least 60% (50% in case of SC/ST/PwD) in 10+2 examination. In the first year of their final exam in UG programme students must secure 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD).
